Halloween

Little Miss S has been asking to go to a "party" for the last week, ever since the Halloween party the Sunday before Halloween! She did have a blast on Halloween, in part because we convinced her that going to daycare was going to a party (they had their fall festival during the day) and that trick-or-treating was a party too!

For trick-or-treating,we went trunk-or-treating at our church. It was a great community event! We tried to make it for dinner beforehand, but traffic got the best of us. If you've never been trunk-or-treating, there's basically a large circle of cars, people have their trunks open (and decorated!) and pass out candy/treats from their trunks!

Little Miss S had a great Minnie Mouse costume, but she flat out refused to wear her ears this time. Luckily, we have a hot pink polka dot bow in our collection that made the perfect Minnie bow! She wanted to wear her superhero cape and mask as we were leaving the house, and I didn't want to fight about it. I had painted her nose black with eyeliner (she happily returned the favor the next morning), but the mask on and off leaves her looking more like she has dirt on her nose! She wore the cape the entire time we trunk-or-treated, so we just said she was Super Minnie!

We practiced this on the car on the way to "trick or treating" - new word she picked up on Halloween:

Me: First we say...

Little Miss: Trick or treat

Me: Then they'll give us candy and we say...

Little Miss: Thank you!

Me: Then they'll say "You're welcome" and we say...

Little Miss: Bye! (with a wave)

This is how most of trunk-or-treating worked:

Car person: Hi! What a cute costume! Want a treat?

Little Miss: Blank stare/hides face in Daddy's neck

Either Stephen or I carted her around for the first half of trunk-or-treating. It wasn't until we go to the middle school decorated bus that she was more willing to walk. She was ready to get on that bus from the minute she saw it! And apparently she knows what to do on a bus because she climbed right up into the first seat and acted like she was going for a ride!

Little Miss being carted around (and the concerned look on her face):

Then she started to get more into it and more happily wandered around and took candy from people:

She was even more upbeat when she discovered what exactly she was gathering in her "basket" - CANDY:

Now we get the joy of a 2 1/2 year old whining "My basket" all the time! Daddy finally had to hide it in the office, so she would stop trying to pull it off the counter!
